What Is 2K Injection Molding?

2K injection molding (two-shot molding) is a process where two different materials are injected sequentially in one mold to form a single integrated part.

First shot: rigid plastic (ABS, PC, Nylon)
Second shot: soft or functional material (TPE, TPU, etc.)

Which plastics can be combined in a two-shot part?

Common concepts pair a rigid thermoplastic such as ABS, PC, PC/ABS, PP, or PA with a compatible TPE or TPU, or use two colors of a related resin. Compatibility is grade-specific. Adhesion, processing temperature, shrinkage, moisture, chemical exposure, and end-use conditions must be checked before finalizing the mold.
